About This Track
I wrote this song for my Mom.
A few weeks ago I was driving alone. I was bummed out because I hadn’t dreamt of my Mom in months. I started talking to her. “Mom I haven’t seen you in a while. Please let me know that you’re okay.”
Several weeks go by and I had this dream. I was walking through the house I lived in when I was a teenager. I looked out the window of the living room and there she was smiling and standing next to this gold Cadillac. I went outside to greet her. “Ma, what is this?” She responded with “I always wanted a gold car so I got one now.” I replied “That is so awesome, Mom. Good for you!”
Several more weeks go by and I’m fiddling around on my keyboard. I’m thinking of Mom and I’m responding to my emotions as I’m trying to come up with something, anything. I called my wife into my room and asked her, “What do you think of this?” I played her what I had at the time which wasn’t much. “What would you call this?” She replied “Redemption”.
So a night later I worked a 3 hour session finishing the arrangement and pouring all the emotional energy I had into the song.
“Redemption” is a fitting title. I honestly feel wherever my Mom is she is redeemed. She’s gotten everything back she’s ever lost: her health, her joy, people that she loved and was close to. Plus she’s now enjoying the things she never received here in this realm. And by having dreams like the one I had confirms what I’m feeling. She’s enjoying herself now wherever and however she wander’s.
